Asia's largest hot-air balloon event, held free of charge along the Kase River. It began in 1978 as a small gathering in Amagi, Fukuoka, moved to Saga in 1980, and turned international in 1984.
Today over 100 balloons — sometimes 120+ registered teams — fill the sky each morning and afternoon for competitive flying, while "Balloon Fantasia" brings out giant character-shaped balloons. The signature evening spectacle, "La Montgolfier Nocturne," lights dozens of tethered balloons in time with music.
