The "Parent and Child Jizo," erected in 1981 in memory of a police officer who died in the line of duty while responding to a traffic accident, offers prayers for the safety of all police officers and an end to traffic accidents.
This parent-child Jizō statue was erected in July 1981 (Showa 56) in memory of a Fukuoka prefectural police officer who died in the line of duty while responding to a traffic accident.
Through the image of a mother and child embracing, the statue watches over the happiness of the deceased officer's family, while also offering protection to the many police officers who continue to work at accident scenes today. It embodies a prayer that traffic accidents might be prevented and their number reduced even by one.
