The head priest of Nanzo-in is known for a remarkable story: he wrapped a talisman of Daikoku-ten around lottery tickets for safekeeping. In June 1995, the month following the completion of the Great Nirvana statue, he won 130 million yen combined from the first prize and surrounding prizes in the jumbo lottery, and then won another 5.6 million yen in a number lottery just ten days later.
